October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Startling Statistics
  • Every 60 seconds 20 people in the United States are beaten or assaulted by a current or significant other.  In one year that equates to 10 million women and men.
  • 20,000 calls are made to domestic violence hotlines in the United State each day
  • 1 in 4 women and 1in 7 men are victims of severe physical violence from a partner
  • The presence of a gun in a domestic violence situation increases the risk of homicide 500%
  • 1 in 5 women and 1 in 8 men are raped in their lifetime
  • 46% of females, 44.9% of men who are victims of rape in the United States are raped by an acquaintance.  Of those, 45.4% of females and 29% of men are raped by intimate partners.
